What Is This?
Significant Gamers is a blog reviewing games from the perspective of significant others who game together. That doesn’t mean we only play co-op, but that’s one of the things we like best. We also enjoy competitive gaming, trading off the controller in single player adventures, and trying out titles in a group. Sometimes we play the same game separately and get together to compare notes. Other times we pursue our own interests and shake our heads sadly at the other’s poor taste.
Who Is This?
Brian – I’m a “social gamer” from an early age, yet not really into online multiplayer. My family used to play PC adventures like Myst, Star Trek, and Sherlock Holmes together in the mid-90s. In the heyday of unstructured free time that was high school I played everything I could get my hands on, but mostly Civilization II. After an extended period away from, or at best on the fringes of, gamerdom, I vowed in 2019 to get caught up on the industry’s history and my Steam backlog. Favorite genres include puzzles, platformers, and shooters.
Kelley – I grew up on Commander Keen, Space Quest, and various Oregon Trail games. Though I dabbled in games as a child, they were almost all educational, LEGO, or Harry Potter in nature. Other than a healthy obsession with Minesweeper, I didn’t play video games as a teenager. If I was on the computer, I was reading something, not playing something. After grad school, I had free time like I never had before! I decided to explore the world of games I missed – something I’ve been working on for the last five and a half years. Favorite types include platformers, puzzles, RPGs, and resource management/crafting. Oh, and I love exploring worlds/lands in video games!
